Bing Lee offers a fairly strict return and refund policy. You can only return defective products. However, for a fee, you can buy an extended warranty that entitles you to a longer period of repair or replacement.

The Bing Lee return policy is governed by the Australian Consumer Law (ACL).

Under the ACL you can ask for:

Does Bing Lee offer a “change of mind return”?

No, Bing Lee does not offer this service.

Some Australian retailers accept returns within a certain timeframe after your purchase even if the item is working perfectly (this is called a “change of mind return”). However, Bing Lee is not such a retailer, so please shop carefully.

How to return online purchases?

Bing Lee asks customers to contact their Customer Services Department on 1300 980 399 before returning the goods.

They will provide you a Tracking Number (“TN”) which identifies the items you purchased. Once you have this number, you can return the product.

Bing Lee’s “Easy Returns” policy

Bing Lee tries to make returning defective products as easy as possible. Under their “Easy Returns” promise they offer:

  • In-store returns: Whether you made the purchase online or in-store, you can walk into any Bing Lee store with a defective product.
  • Online returns: Contact Bing Lee via phone at 1300 609 228 or use the online chat on their website. A member of their customer service will guide you through the entire procedure.

What goods cannot be returned?

Because of their nature, certain products are not eligible for returns:

  • downloaded software
  • subscriptions to software or updates
  • software with used license keys
  • expired gift cards
  • if a gift card has not expired and still has remaining credits, it can be returned

What happens after you return an item?

First Bing Lee assesses if the item is eligible for return:

  • They make sure the returned item is complete, unmarked and proof of purchase is included.
  • Determine whether the item meets the Consumer guarantee of the ACL or not.
  • Determine whether the item has any kind of warranty or Back Up Plan provided by either Bing Lee or the manufacturer.

If the item is accepted for return, depending on the nature of the problem Bing Lee will either repair or replace the item, or give you a refund:

  • In case of a major failure. you can decide if you want a repair, exchange, or repair.
  • In case of minor problems, Bing Lee will decide how to handle the issue.

What warranty does Bing Lee offer?

Bing Lee offers a manufacturer’s warranty for most of its products.

For an extra fee, Bing Lee also offers a “Repair plan” or “Replacement plan” on some of their products. The price and duration of these plans vary.

If the purchased item has a major problem, the ACL allows you to ask for a refund (or exchange, or repair).

However, in case of minor problems retailers are not required to give you a refund. If Bing Lee chooses to repair the minor problem, you must accept it instead of a refund.

Should you be eligible for a refund, Bing Lee will issue the refund to the payment method you used to pay for the item. Credit cards, cheques, EFT, and PayPal are all possible options.

The same applies to exchanges as refunds. In case of major problems, or faulty products you can ask for a replacement.

However, minor problems do not entitle you to exchange, Bing Lee might choose to repair the product in such cases.

Can I return a product without the receipt?

You need to have some sort of proof of your purchase. While the receipt is the most ideal proof, Bing Lee might accept other proofs of the transaction. Please reach out to customer support for details.

I found the same product for a better price at another retailer. Can I return my purchase?

No, Bing Lee won’t accept such returns. However, Bing Lee does price match most of its Australian competitors. Just show the proof of the competitor’s lower price to Bing Lee and they might refund the price difference.

Can I return clearance or discounted items?

As long as they are operational, it is unlikely that Bing Lee accepts such returns. Many retailers have a stricter return policy on such items.

Can I return a purchase made using a gift card?

They should accept returns on faulty items even if they were purchased with gift cards. However, many stores don’t give a cash refund but credit the same amount back to your gift card in such cases.
