Myer offers a very relaxed return policy, as long as the product is in a re-saleable condition, you have 30 days to return it.

Myer’s return policy

As one of the largest retail stores in Australia, Myer offers a generous return policy that states customers can return anything, as long as it is in a re-saleable condition.

The Myer return policy operates under the following terms:

  • Returns must be made within 30 days of purchase.
  • Proof of transaction/purchase such as a receipt is required.
  • All items are supposed to be returned with their original, sealed packing or tags attached where they originally were.

This policy excludes:

  • custom-made items
  • big and bulky products such as furniture or electronics
  • bedding accessories, personal care items
  • perishable goods such as flowers
  • product care plans
  • hosiery, alcohol, pierced jewelry
  • anything that has a tag stating ‘No Change of Mind’

Returning online purchases

Myer allows its customers to return online purchases as long as 30 days have not passed since the item was bought. You must also possess either a digital receipt or a printed version of payment proof to convince the store that you really bought the item you are returning.

In-store returns

It is encouraged that you return any item, whether bought online or offline, at the Myer store which you bought it from.

Returns by mail

Yes, you can return a product via Parcel Point or Australia Post. Make sure the item is in its original packing. If you don’t have the original packing, you need to contact the Myer Experience Centre at 13 69 37 and request a new packaging to make the return. It is recommended, however, to make all returns and exchanges in person.

Can you return clearance/discounted items?

No, clearance and discounted items cannot be returned even if you have satisfactory proof of purchase.

Can you return purchases made using a gift card?

With Myer returns made using a gift receipt, the refunded amount will be credited back to your Myer Returns Card based on the original purchase value. If you don’t have this card, it will be issued to you.

Can you return a used product?

Yes, as long as the product is in a re-saleable condition and complete with its original packing and tags. If the Myer team is not satisfied with the product’s condition, the return will not be possible.

Myer’s exchange policy

Myer’s exchange policy follows the same basic rules as their return policy. The item must not be from the excluded list, it should be in a re-saleable condition and the exchange is only possible within 30 days of purchase.

Can you exchange clearance/discounted items?

No, clearance/discounted items cannot be exchanged for another item because of the difference in value. You cannot exchange one discounted item for another discounted item either. It is against Myer’s policy conditions.

Can you exchange purchases made using a gift card?

No, exchanges cannot be made on products purchased via a gift card. If the item fails to meet Myer’s consumer guarantee i.e. it is defective by nature or not functional or different from what was advertised, then you may return the product and get the amount refunded to your gift card.

Can you exchange a used product?

It is possible but the product must be in top condition, with original packing and sealing intact, and any tags that came along with the purchase.

Myer’s refund policy

Myer does offer a refund policy. It follows the same rules as its return and exchange policy. The refund can only be processed within 30 days of the purchase and the item must not be from the excluded items list and must follow the other conditions of the policy.

The default is to refund the money to your original payment method, whether it was a credit card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, bank transfer, or PayPal.

Myer’s warranty policy

By default, though, Myer offers no warranty. They only rely on the manufacturer’s warranty.

However, for some products, the company offers a Myer Care Plan that covers mechanical and electrical failures. This plan is not for free and needs to be purchased separately. It usually provides anywhere from 2 to 4 years of warranty AFTER the manufacturer’s warranty expires.

You are also protected by the Australian Consumer Law (ACL). According to the Warranties and Consumer guarantees parts of the ACL:

  • In case of a major failure, you can decide if you want a refund, exchange, or repair.
  • In case of a minor failure, Myer will decide to refund, exchange, or repair the product.

FAQs

Can I return or exchange an expensive item?

Yes, you can but for items exceeding $1,000 in value, you must provide your name, address, and ABN.

What if I no longer have the payment receipt but the product is in the original packing, unopened?

Unfortunately, there is no simple way to prove that the product belongs to you. Proof of purchase is essential for a successful return/exchange, even if your product was bought a few minutes ago and is unopened.

What if I have to return more than one item?

You may return more than one item but make sure the reasoning is solid. If Myer detects an excessive return/exchange pattern, they hold the right to refuse all your future returns/exchanges whether or not you meet the policy conditions.
